If you applied for the ITIN with the federal return then all you can do is wait. Once the number is issued they will forward the return on for processing and send you the confirmation paperwork in the mail.
If you also need to file a state return put it on extension so you have until 10/15 to file ... by then the number should have been issued.
Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences. It has been helpful to me and my family. Here is my status:
1. Applied - February 8, 2021
2. ITIN issued - April 15, 2021
Good luck to everyone. Thank you.
Update from me:
ITIN W7 form sent with my tax return to IRS by mail: 02/12/2021
received by IRS: 02/24/2021
ITIN issued: 04/15/2021
Tax return still in progress. Hope this will help, who are waiting for their ITIN.
Thanks
You will receive a letter from the IRS assigning your tax identification number usually within seven weeks if you qualify for an ITIN and your application is complete.
Thank You for sharing @Panky
Hi
I'm still waiting for the ITIN applied for my son.
Applied date: Feb 25 2021
I tried to reach the IRS but not reachable and not able to talk to anyone.
Hopefully, I should get in next 8-10days.
I sent w7 for my wife on 7th Feb 2021 but still hasn't received the ITIN yet.
I will suggest you to call the IRS toll-free at 800-829-1040 if you are in the United States or 267-941-1000 if you are outside the United States. This service allows you to check the status of your application seven weeks after submitting Form W-7 and your tax return.

Per IRS' Update:
"Currently the IRS is opening and processing Form W-7s as quickly as possible despite social distancing requirements. We are currently processing Form W-7s that were received December 2020 and are taking every action to minimize delays, processing them in the order they were received. The taxpayer will be notified once the ITIN is assigned or if additional information is needed. Original identification documents that are submitted with the Form W-7 will be returned to the taxpayer at the mailing address of record as quickly as possible. The associated tax return will then be submitted for processing.
Other than responding to any requests for information promptly, there is no action the taxpayer should take. They should not file a second Form W-7 or tax return or contact the IRS about the status of their Form W7 or their return. Eligible taxpayers who need to obtain or renew an ITIN may submit Form W-7 and the related tax return and documentation now if they have not previously filed. Please refer to the Instructions for Form W-7 for eligibility requirements."

@ Drahsanali92
Same issues. I mail the application on Feb 22. Do you got any response?
If you did not send the W-7 with the tax return then put the return on extension and wait for the ITIN to file.
@tfeng1 If you mailed in an ITIN application the IRS will send you a letter with your tax identification number. Under normal circumstances, this usually takes seven weeks if you qualify for an ITIN and your application is complete.
As awesome Tax Expert @LinaJ2020 mentioned, the IRS is running behind. The IRS says, "Other than responding to any requests for information promptly, there is no action the taxpayer should take. They should not file a second Form W-7 or tax return or contact the IRS about the status of their Form W7 or their return."

It looks like IRS is saying they are processing ITINS from march 2021.
Is there anyone else who filed their ITIN in February 2021 and hasn't received it yet ?

I sent my ITIN application 10 weeks ago It was delivered to IRS on March 20, 2021
Does any one has an idea how long I have to wait? Is this normal?
