Thanks for the info. Would a tax preparer, eg. Block advisor, be able to file such an 1120s amended return even though the original return was filed via TT software?
Yes, an amended 1120-S can be e-filed with professional tax software.
Thanks!
Any idea which software?
awesome! I looked it up; it seems like Intuit ProConnect Tax might be a viable solution to file an amended 1120s. If anyone has done it successfully, let me know. That would be very encouraging.
Hope it works. Fingers crossed!
a quick update after I signed into ProConnect: 'IRS requires Intuit to verify your EFIN (electronic filing identification number) before you’re able to e-file through'. Since I don't have EFIN, this route is closed for me. I will have to get a tax preparer to file the amended return. :(
The "straight forward" instructions will not overcome the fact that the file that was copied and renamed had been e-filed already. It is a round robin of frustration.

If you read through the entire thread, you should realize that an amended 1120-S cannot be e-filed with TurboTax Business,
Fair enough, but the real conundrum is why won't TurboTax not allow the e-filing of an amended 1120-S return Intuit has obviously surmounted this huddle because through ProConnect I supposedly can file an amended 1120-S return but only if one confirms things via a purchase of forms.
In fact, the entire thread you have kindly asked me to read through, it littered with requests from uses for this deficiency to be corrected by the TurboTax team. Again, the question is, why is it the e-filing of an amended 1120-S returned disallowed in TurboTax Business? Thankfully, there is still the USPS.
You need an EFIN for ProConnect.
The functionality may be available in future editions, but maybe not. I am fairly certain the developers take the number of users who need or request certain functions into consideration and devote resources accordingly.
How long does this type of basic adjustment to the algorithm take? It's now almost November and the correction still hasn't been made but has been a known issue for a few years now. I'm a desktop user, so don't pay extra for support thank goodness. This is the first year I've needed to file an amended return and it's been a major irritation. While the IRS instructions don't specifically say you have to file electronically, per my last conversation with them, this is what is EXPECTED.
There are also issues this year with the program skipping required entries during the process, but catching them on the review.
Last suggestion, when an 1120S customer calls in, it would be great to be routed to someone familiar with THAT program level. TurboTax support staff are truly great, but if they don't have the knowledge required everyone gets frustrated. If the call is routed to an "expert", they also need to be well-versed in the 1120S, not just personal tax returns.
I fully concur with the "adjustment should have been made by this time" (and should, indeed, be made as soon as practicable) but, unfortunately, it does not appear to be anywhere close to a top priority.
With respect to support, it would also be nice if there were some sort of "advanced" level with personnel who had the requisite knowledge. Unfortunately, that is highly unlikely to happen since people working in that department would need to be familiar not only with an 1120-S, but also with 1120s, 1041s, and 1065s.
