Accidentally claiming recovery rebate

I accidentally claimed the credit 1400 . My state allowed me to efile an amended tax return Both the amended tax return and original with wrong amount  show accepted by irs on same day none have been processed. I owe 1400 and specified date the irs can deduct it. If the irs catches the mistake on the original will they reject my amended tax return or will I somehow be over charged help

Ok, I am trying to follow your instructions "In TurboTax Online, you are prompted to input the third stimulus check information under Review down the left hand side of the screen.  You can also access your stimulus check choices by following these steps:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Across the top of the screen, click on Other Tax Situations.
  • At the screen We're almost there… or the screen That's all we need…,  click on Let’s keep going.
  • At the screen Let’s double-check the amount you received, answer the questions and click Continue."

However - I am using a downloadable version of Turbo Tax.  I am able to click on FEDERAL.  I am able to get to "OTHER TAX SITUATIONS", but I do not get to a place that asks about the "amount received" for the Economic Impact Payment.

Does the downloadable version of Turbo Tax have this feature?

Accidentally claiming recovery rebate

I have a 570 with a date of 2/28/2022 and now a 971 with a date of 3/7/2022 and up top it says process date 2/28/2022 and up a little higher it as of date 2/28/2022 and I was accepted on 1/22/2022 and haven't heard anything. So the way it looks something should have changed on 2/28/2022 but everything still the same. What should I do????

Accidentally claiming recovery rebate

You seem like a well educated person. I filed my own taxes on TurboTax this year and I accidently clicked that I hadn't received the EITC, when after looking at bank statements I did get it. Its been a long crazy year. I filed 02/04, I was suppose to get my taxes on 02/25 and still hadn't gotten my tax return. I have tried calling the IRS with no luck. I was hoping to get my tax returns in to help with bills and it put me into the hole waiting for them. Any Idea of how long it could be? I have been searching and searching on Google for at least somewhat of a answer and still not getting one. My taxes were accepted. To be honest adulting sucks lol.

They will catch the amended return if the original return is processed and send you a letter in the mail. If you are still stuck on processing they may be looking at your amended return since they have received it.

I haven't used the app to file before. However, most times the app is ran on a different program than the browser. So i suggest using the internet instead. Also, if you use your phone try using the desktop format.

You should be receiving a letter in the mail saying your return was adjusted. You should be receiving a DDD shortly hun.

are you confusing the EITC with the CTC? there is no advance on the EITC.only the CTC.  assuming you qualify for the EITC, if you have no qualifying dependents, the iRS is likely to catch the error and adjust your refund accordingly.  if you have qualifying dependents the IRS will want Schedule EIC

if you have qualifying children for the CTC  and got credits, the iRS will adjust your refund.

there are likely to be delays in the full processing of your return. do nothing now. wait until you get the refund or hear from the IRS.

IRS will automatically subtract the amount you received from your return. This is honestly a small error. You may have to wait an extra 3wks at the most but the system will correct it or it will go to errors department.

How long did it delay your return by?

Accidentally claiming recovery rebate

Hello, how do you know what cycle your transcript is on? I know you said because of a code 0705 but where do you find the code and the meaning ? From everything that I’m reading you are the only person that has heard anything about there taxes that made a mistake on line 30. I’ve tried calling and all I get is transferred to a line that’s to busy to help? Does anyone know if there is another way to contact the IRS just for them to give us an idea of how long it will take to correct this error it seems to be a common error this year so I would think it would be a quick fix??? Just my opinion idk…

Do I need to amend if I claimed the credit recovery rebate? I do not know it's my first mistake ever when filing my taxes and I have no clue what to do

Accidentally claiming recovery rebate

@Rdg13579

No do not amend.   You just have to wait for the IRS to fix your mistake.   By answering incorrectly about the stimulus amount you received you put an amount on line 30 of your Form 1040.   The IRS checks that line.  They know how much they sent to you.   They will reduce your refund by that amount.   This will delay your refund so expect a wait.

No, do not amend. This will only delay processing of your return. If the Recovery Rebate needs to be adjusted, the IRS will do that for you and then continue processing your return. You won't have to do anything.

Will the irs fix your tax return if you did accidentally claim the recovery rebate or do I have too?
