Hello,
I filed 2020 NJ amended filing because NJ rejected my e-File due to lack of a feature at the time I e-Filed. At the time TurboTax instructed me to pay the estimated tax and file for an extension. I payed the estimated tax and send the amended return via mail.
Just two weeks ago, I received a letter from NJ Division of Taxation that I must send the original return for them to process my NJ-1040X. I cannot find the original NJ-1040 in TurboTax.
Can someone help me figure out how to get the original 1040X?

Did you save a PDF copy of your return before amending it?
If you used TurboTax Online to complete and file your 2020 federal and state tax returns, you can access a copy by following the steps in this TurboTax help article: How do I access a prior-year return?
If you used TurboTax CD/Download software to complete and file your return, then TurboTax would not have a copy as your tax return would be stored locally on your computer or storage device.
You can also reach out to the NJ Division of Taxation to request a copy of a previously filed return. I've provided the link below.
NJ Division of Taxation: Obtaining Copies of Previously Filed Tax Returns
Unfortunately I do not have a copy that I saved before filing the ammendment.
I am pleading the community and the experts here for answer. I do not know how to respond to NJ Division of Taxation request.

It sounds to me that you never sent an original NJ-1040 to begin with.
You say NJ rejected your e-file, so that is what you should have mailed in, an ORIGINAL NJ-1040. However it sounds like you never sent a JN-1040, only an amended return.
That would cause an issue with the state.
They can't process an amended return if they never got an original one.
If this is your situation, let the state know you never sent an original return. More than likely you might need to start over and create an original NJ-1040 unless you saved a copy of the return that you say could not be e-filed.
Thank you very much for your responses so far. Hopefully, the last question on this topic.
Would I be able to use TurboTax to re-do my original NJ-1040 after I created a 1040X using TurboTax?
Yes, you will be asked as part of the amendment process if you need to amend your state return as well. TurboTax will step you through that process. Any changes you make in the federal return will carry over to the state return.
