If you have already e-filed and been accepted, you will have to wait until your original return is processed and your refund received to send in an emended return.  Amended returns have to be filed on paper by mail and it can take the IRS 12-16 weeks to process them.  After doing the amended return, if nothing changes from your original return, just keep the amended return for reference but don't mail it in.
