Paying taxes owed

I efiled my return using Turbo Tax and I owe Federal Taxes. I put my bank routing number and checking account number so that my taxes can be paid. I think I may have not put the whole checking account number. I may have left out three digits. I went back on Turbo tax to check but can’t seem to find out anywhere. How do I check and if it’s incorrect how do I go about correcting it?

Paying taxes owed

Once the tax return has been filed the bank information cannot be changed.  If the bank information was not correct the bank will refuse the deposit and send the refund back to the IRS.  The IRS will mail a refund check to the address on the tax return.

The bank information will be shown on the federal Filing Instructions page and on the Federal Information Worksheet Part V.  Use this procedure to view or download the complete tax return including worksheets -

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.

This will take you back to the 2021 online tax return.

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen.  Then click on Print Center.  Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.  Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets

Paying taxes owed

You said taxes owed and not a refund.

If the bank information you entered was incorrect and you have taxes owed you can cancel the payment and then pay the taxes owed on the IRS payment website - https://www.irs.gov/payments

Go to this IRS website for how to cancel a payment - https://www.irs.gov/payments/pay-taxes-by-electronic-funds-withdrawal

  • Once your return is accepted, information pertaining to your payment, such as account information, payment date, or amount, cannot be changed. If changes are needed, the only option is to cancel the payment and choose another payment method.
  • Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about or cancel your payment, but please wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling.
  • Cancellation requests must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. ET two business days prior to the scheduled payment date.
