No record of deposit but I have a receipt to the IRS

Received a notice today stating that my taxes were short (plus P&I) the exact amount of my deposit I made back in Sept. I have the email receipt that was sent to me but no record of the payment is reflected on my online account.

Was it an Estimated payment?  Does your  bank Account or credit card show it coming out?  That is your only proof of payment.

Oh, was it for a 2024 payment or a 2023 tax due?  How did you pay it?  It may have gotten applied to the wrong year.

Yes. I have both the payment coming out of my account and a matching email stating the payment has been scheduled with a receipt number.

It was for 2024. I am all caught up so I owed nothing.

I made the payment in the IRS website.
