Not clear what year you are talking about...but TTX only has back to 2015 (Federal and states) available now.

IF you find earlier years available elsewhere.....and if the download file is an early version, it may not be usable anyhow since TTX won't have updates available for it....and you definitely wouldn't be able to download a state form set either.

If you need to work on on anything, I think you are stuck with using paper forms from the IRS website for 2014 and earlier years.

I appreciate your answer. However, not being able to obtain the 2012 CD is not very helpful. I do have an electronic copy of my 2012 tax return on my computer but cannot open it because I do not have the 2012 disk. Is there any way of opening the file with my 2012 Turbo Tax return in TTX format?

The CD would be totally useless to you no matter where you got it.....it wouldn't open your tax file without being updated..

......without 2012 installed and already updated to at least the rev-version in which that particular .tax2012 datafile was created (and the software  must include the state installed before attempting to open the file).

It's really critical that everyone remember to create a PDF copy every year...without fail.. Right after their tax file is entirely completed...filed and accepted.   

2012 would work on a computer it was already installed on...My TTX Software back to 2008 continued to work on my windows 10 computer since the computer was updated from W 7-to-W10 and it already had 2009...8...9..etc on it.  But once it crashed, I could only re-install whatever software versions TTX was supporting at the time..

There is a 3rd party tax printer service that will just create and send you a  PDF by email......un-associated with TTX, and it is completely unknown as to how well they protect your data..if at all.
