Need to amend my 2016/2017 returns to include passive losses from rental prop. Forms 1040 and 8582 only. Can I just update those two forms?

No, you can't just update the two forms. An amended return has to be filed on a special form, Form 1040X. You will attach the modified Form 8582 to the Form 1040X.

An amended return cannot be e-filed. You have to print it, sign it, and file it by mail. Mail the amended return for each year in a separate envelope. It takes the IRS up to 16 weeks to process an amended return.
