I go to the WMR site and it says We can not provide any info about your refund. To call IRS and give Ref# 9001 what does this mean

I got the letter, I try to verify online but I can't login. What all do I need to verify over the phone as far as prior years tax returns. I'm limited to what prior years information I have.

@kmclucas731  did you verify by phone? Or with the letter? I still haven't received a letter. My transcript is blank! I think a lot of people assume they have already been verified because they IRS Reps ask questions when anyone calls before giving out info. Just FYI to anyone who thinks they have officially verified.... That's great your WMR is updating. I'm wondering if mine will ever move from the 9001 code.... Like why would they mail me a transcript of they think I'm not me???!!!

@amandamoliveira3  I was in your exact situation,  received the letter in the mail at the address I filed under this year. The letter has a control number on it which you NEED to verify. Once you call the number that goes along with the control number they will ask you questions from the most previous filed year, so have all documents supporting that year in hand and ready. Once you verify, they will put it back into processing and it will take up to 9 weeks to be issued to bank accounts. It says it’s gonna only be another few days for me. You should receive that letter within 15 business days of filing. So all you can do at this point is wait. Everything will work out, I promise.

Other sites have threads where people are saying they were flagged for identity verification to receive a letter BECAUSE they called to inquire about code 9001. Also, a few people have received refunds after being told they are getting a letter in the mail before having their returns/refunds processed.... Then some guy says he went in to his local IRS building (you need an appointment) and bypassed waiting for the letter and had his refund 8 days later... This is so confusing. I feel like the IRS should make some kind of statement so we know what to do and what not to do. By saying nothing, they are making this way more complex and upsetting than it needs to be..... ugh!

I think they update again tonight 9pm to midnight I could be wrong but I looked it up and that's what it says.
