My husband passed away in September, 2019. He had been retired for many years, and I had a part time job of 20 hours/week which began in Spring of 2018. I actually resigned on 9-11-2019 in order to stay home with my husband. I walked in to find he had passed away during the day.
My taxes are trending higher in 2019 than what was paid in 2018. I'm filing jointly as I always did in the past. I can't seem to find any errors that I have made. Should I keep searching, or just go ahead and file? I did receive SSA benefits beginning in October, 2019. That's the only difference.
Thank you for any advice.
Always print a copy of your completed tax return for your records, and review it carefully before e-Filing.
You will need it if you are audited by the IRS, or to amend if a TurboTax update changes your return or for any other reason.
AND, to find your AGI next year.
Put the paper copy aside for three days. Then review it again.
If there is an error you'll probably find it.
ALSO, examine 1040 Line 5b.
If there is an amount there, that's a difference since that amount is taxable.
Double check that all your W-2 numbers are correct.
