Either you didn’t finish filing or your efile rejected. Or you were suppose to mail it. Did you use the Online version?
Did you go all the way through the File tab, through the 3 steps and hit the big orange Transmit Returns Now button?
When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile. And check your spam folder for them.
When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. What does it say?
If you didn’t file you have to print and mail it now. Be sure to attach any W2 and 1099 forms that show withholding on them.
This would have been in April so as far as I remember, yes I went through all the steps and rec’d the email stating they were filed. I never rec’d an email stating they were accepted, rejected or on hold though now that I’m looking back. When I look at my account there is not a status, and when I go to the IRS Status look up it states nothing. I’m just wondering why I received the email stating they were filed from TurboTax and then nothing from there.
We cannot tell you what went wrong, since we cannot see your account. But....it sounds like your returns were not filed successfully. The only way to file now is by mail. E-filing is closed permanently for 2023 returns. Print the return, sign and date it in ink, and mail it.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
My next question is the my return file online is a .tax file. When I try and download it I receive an error when opening it in adobe. What’s the best way to download my return so I can print it to mail it out?

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Start the 2024 online tax return by entering some personal information then click on Tax Home on the left side of the screen.
On the Tax Home webpage -
Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents. Click on the Year 2023 and Click on Download/print return (PDF)
I entered our personal information and went until our income. I still do not have the option for a pdf download.
What is the status of he federal tax return? The status is shown in a box just to the left of links shown in your screenshot.
Did you pay the Turbo Tax fees? Or were they supposed to come out of your refund? If the fees weren’t paid you need to buy the Desktop program to open the .tax2023 file to get the pdf file.
You can buy the download desktop versions for the last 3 years from Turbo Tax here....

If the federal tax return was not completed there will not be a PDF download link available for the year of the tax return. You will have to download the tax data file (.tax) and continue the tax return using one of the TurboTax desktop editions for 2023.
Go to this website to purchase and download one the 2023 desktop editions - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

Once the 2023 desktop edition is installed you would need to start the program and click on the File menu on the top left of the desktop program screen. Then click on Open Tax Return. Then browse to the location where you downloaded the tax data file so that you can continue the 2023 return.
A 2023 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed using
I paid the fees for the online version. I have record of that.
