Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted?
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large Orange button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
Use this TurboTax website to check the status of an e-filed return and if it was either accepted or rejected - https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
What is the status of the e-filed tax return?
If the return was Accepted by the IRS then when checking the federal tax refund status on the IRS website you Must enter Exactly the Social Security number, the Filing Status and the whole dollar amount of the federal tax refund as is enter on the federal tax return that was filed. Look at your federal tax return.
To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)
It seems to me if I received a letter from you that states in part - "Electronic Postmark -- Certification of Electronic Filing" and it reads:
Federal Return Submitted: April 07, 2018 @2:16 PM PDT
Federal Return Acceptance Date: 04/07/2018
Item 2: States "Once the IRS accepts the electronically filed return, the acceptance date will be provided by the INTUIT Electronic Filing Center. this date is proof that the IRS accepted the electronically filed return,
How was I to know that it was NOT excepted, you never told me that there might be a problem.
If you knew that there was a problem with my return, you should have notified me.
What do we do now?????
Are you going to pay any late fees?
Did you check your emails? If you efiled your return you get back 2 emails. The first one only confirms the transmission and a second email if the IRS accepted or Rejected it. Check your junk or spam folder for emails.
Are you asking about a 2017 return? And when you log in it should say the status like Accepted or Rejected or Printed or Mailed or Started, etc. What does it say?
So you are referring to a 2017 tax return that you filed in April 2018? If you have the email showing that the 2017 e-filed federal tax return was Accepted on 04/07/2018 then that verifies that the return was received by the IRS.
The IRS website for the status of a federal return is only available for the current tax year 2018, not for tax year 2017.
To inquire about the status of a 2017 federal tax refund you will have to call the IRS and speak with an IRS agent.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
It should then transfer you to an agent.
