First, can someone verify that the number on the letter I received from the IRS is a legit number. [phone number removed]. The IRS website does not refer to the 833 area code in the list for notices.
If this is a legit number for an IRS notice CP12T in reference to a miscalculation of taxable income. If the error is what I think it is, I think it is a TurboTax software issue. Do I contact the IRS or TurboTax first?
IF, the IRS has a legitimate calculation, and they have corrected the error, how do I proceed as I will then need to amend state returns?

TurboTax has a special phone number for help with IRS tax letters, which will be easier than going through regular Customer Support. At the page below, click on the blue button that says "Get Help from TurboTax Support". Then it will ask you what tax year is your letter. Then it will ask you what the letter concerns. Then it will show you the phone number during posted business hours.
