IRS has no record of my filing

I have the same problem. I check IRS today. They said I have not to file any in 2019. I did use turbo tax 2019 for the electronic files. I am very panicked now. Any advice please help.

I just had this same thing happen to me. Did you ever get your situation worked out? What did you do?

IRS has no record of my filing

I re-sent my 2019 taxes with "COPY" written at the top of every page and a letter explaining what happened and included the record locator from TurboTax. Separately I sent my 2020 on paper. I sent both by registered mail.

Incidentally, My husband just received his third stimulus payment, oddly enough to a investment account we have never given to the IRS, I did not receive mine (we filed jointly). I checked our IRS records and there is no update. His stimulus lookup said it was deposited, mine says there is no information.

Well, yes and no.

I ended up getting my IRS transcripts which explained a lot. (I recommend that to everyone) Yes, because it just took the IRS from March 2019 to April 2021 to process our “Married Filed Joint” return. However, check we paid was cashed March 2019.

We received stimulus #1 and took credit for stimulus #2 on 2020 return.

Here’s where it gets crazy. On my transcript I do not have any tax filings for years 2018-2011. My Husband and I have been married going on 24 years and have always filed “MFJ”. IRS says you and spouse transcripts should mirror one another. Our do not. I also do not reflect income for the last 8 years. So, I’m going to write to IRS and make sure 2020.

Then I’m making copies of all my previous returns and W-2’s and sending them to IRS to fix previous years. This may take awhile. I’m not holding my breath.

Correction...That should be March 2020 for return 2019. Sorry, don’t want to exaggerate or make IRS look worse.

Thanks,

Loli

Instead of the IRS check your SS records to see if you have gotten the credit for the earnings ... that is the important issue not the filed returns.

As for the transcripts ... if the online system is not showing them then mail in a form 4506T to get them mailed to you.

I would request your transcript online. All you have to do is create an account to verify you are who you say you are. Then select reason for transcript “income verification “ and you are in.

This will tell you what has been processed, when. Also, your wage history. This will help if your return is being processed and you just need to wait some more. IRS is very backed up.

Good Luck!

Ok, just talked to a lady at the IRS. I called my "local" office to schedule an appointment. So I was on hold for around 30-45 minutes and when she answered, she started assisting me right then and there. I guess she had an opening right then.. I didn't ask. She got all of my information and said that she could see where I paid my 2019 taxes, but my 2019 taxes haven't been approved on their end yet. The payment I made was sitting in their system waiting for my 2019 to be processed though, so I don't have to worry about being charged again or having past due taxes. I had gotten a notice in October 2020 that I needed to submit a form I forgot for my 2019 taxes, and I mailed it out that day. That form is what is holding up my 2019 taxes still, in April 2021!, and she seemed like she had no record of the form I mailed even being received. She said my only recourse is to mail my 2020 taxes. She didn't advise me to re-submit anything from 2019. Anyway, I suggest for people to try the "make an appointment" option from the IRS website. Just look for your closest local IRS location and call the number listed for it.

I got my SS report and they don’t have income for me for the last eight years. But 2019 was entered both on my SS report  and tax transcript.

My spouse has all tax filings and income on his transcript and SS report. I don’t know what happened. It’s only the last eight years.

According to this IRS update as of April 23rd:

The IRS is now opening mail within normal timeframes. The IRS has also made significant progress in processing prior year returns. As of April 16, 2021, we had 1.5 million individual tax returns received prior to 2021 in the processing pipeline. Including current year returns, as of April 16, 2021, we had 16.1 million unprocessed individual returns in the pipeline. Unprocessed returns include those requiring correction to the Recovery Rebate Credit amount or validation of 2019 income used to figure the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC). This work does not require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund. If, as a result, a correction is made to any RRC, EITC or ACTC claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Where’s My Refund? for their personalized refund status and can review Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.

How long you may have to wait: The IRS understands the importance of timely processing of tax returns and refund issuance. We are processing returns received over the summer and fall in 2020 due to the extended July 15, 2020 tax filing due date. While the majority of 2019 refund returns have been processed, in some cases, we are processing tax returns that were mailed with a payment even though payment associated with these returns have been processed by the IRS. However, we are rerouting tax returns and taxpayer correspondence from locations that are behind to locations where more staff is available, and we are taking other actions to minimize any delays. Tax returns are opened in the order received. As the return is processed, it may be delayed because it has a mistake including errors concerning the Recovery Rebate Credit, is missing information, or there is suspected identity theft or fraud. If we can fix it without contacting you, we will. If we need more information or need you to verify that it was you who sent the tax return, we will write you a letter. The resolution of these issues depends on how quickly and accurately you respond, and the ability of IRS staff trained and working under social distancing requirements to complete the processing of your return.

What you should do: If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s my refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. We’re working hard to get through the backlog. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.
