If you have completed and filed the 2018 tax return using the online editions, then on the Tax Home web page the tax year of 2018 will be shown under Your tax returns & documents.  The link for Download .tax file will be available.

You have to sign onto your 2018 online account using the exact same user ID you used to create the account.

Close all TurboTax windows on your web browser (including this one).  Copy and paste the account recovery website link onto a new web browser window and run the tool.

Use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of all the user ID's for an email address.  Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery

If none of the user ID's received will access your 2018 account, then use the option shown in blue on the account recovery website, "Try something else"

If you still cannot access your account, you can contact TurboTax customer service/support through their contact website during business hours.

When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download .tax file

Thank for your quick respond, I did follow your instruction, the screen I had is : "Tax Home" shows on the top of left side,  "Intuit Account" on the bottom of left side, "Your Tax Returns and Documents" at the bottom of the screen!, but does not shown the year of 2018 ? not sure if I am at the right place, or my 2018 return has not yet posted to my account, I did file and submit both online, IRS also accepted my return, is there anything goes wrong with my turbotax ? and where I can talk to a real customer service personal ?

Hello DoninGA, Now I have bigger problem, I think TurboTax created two different copies of my return, one is the one I already filed, accepted by IRS and State, created a PDF file, and trying to get the DATA file with your help, other one has the same name except add "tax2018" after the dot, I am not sure where it comes from, the two always together when I open the return and I have no way to delete it, after I read your reply today, I  reopen my return, it asking me if I want to install update on my return, I clicked YES, and I think it applied to the older one, the one I tried to delete without success, it is incorrect and error version of my return ... I am wondering eventually when I able to create my data file, what version of my return Turbotax use ? Is anyway I can delete the unwanted one. please help and thanks a lot !!
 By the way, I also followed the insturcation from the links including inside your reply to recover all my ids within Turbotax, unfortunately Turbotax does not realize the email you/Turbotax use to send me all our conversations !!

The tax data file for 2018 will have a file extension of .tax2018.  That data file can only be opened by the TurboTax 2018 software installed on a personal computer.  The data file has all the 2018 tax data that is included in the tax returns filed along with all the calculation worksheets and other forms that would be for your use only and not sent to the IRS and state.
The PDF you previously downloaded is the copy of the returns filed with the IRS and State.

Thank so much for your quick response and guide me through all my miserable problems and questions, now I have three versions of my return on my Turbotax app, their names are : 1) Tax Return 2018, 2) Tax Return 2018.tax2018, 3) Tax Return 2016.second.tax2018, I think in the beginning I only have two version, both Tax Return 2018, I changed the name of one to Tax Return 2018.second, the when I reopen my return this morning I checked the one has second, do you think that is the incorrect one I suppose delete it and unable to ? please advise with the three I have on my computer, which one is the right one, I open the Tax Return 2018, still sendup with the wrong number with refunds ... is anyway I can get the correct data file ? thanks, also how I can let Turbotax remember my email address which it use for our conversations ?

I may have missed it or can’t tell, are you using Turbo Tax Online or the Desktop program installed on your computer?  And why do you need to create a Data File?

That is the second time I have to re-enter an hand type everything into my return infromation onto Turbotax, I upgraded my computer to a higher version two times, first time I do not have a data file or I do not know there was a data file, and did not know I need a data file in order for Turbotax retrieve my information, this time I download the software directly from online to a new computer, and Turbotax does not have my information again

So you have files ending in .tax2018 on your computer?  What happens when you try to open it?  Do you get any error code or message? You need to copy the .tax2018 file from the old computer to the new computer.

After you get the program installed the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to File-New Tax Return).

Then go to FILE -Open and find your return.

Would you please let me know, the three version of my return on my Turbotax are all dada files and how/which I can delete ? and why Turbotax does not have record the email id which inform me your reply of my questions and connect us together ?

There are only 2 kinds of files.  Data files end in .tax2018, .tax2017 etc.
The PDF files end in .pdf.

You would have to open each .tax2018 file in the program to see what return it is.

The are all the same incorrect one, what should I do ? except the refund, etc are all incorrect, the status are correct, accepted
