Maybe. Here is how you decide if you need to wait for the W2.
When you PCS and do a PPM, the military DFAS will send you a W2 for the “net profit" on the move. The net profit is the amount you received after they deducted the allowable items such as truck, boxes, tape, wrapping paper, etc. When you filed your receipts to get reimbursement for the move, your finance office would have told you the profit amount. If you had a profit, then you will receive a W2 and need to wait to receive it.
The net profit may affect your income as the net profit will be included in your income. The good news is that the military takes taxes on your “net profit” which may help the bump in the income level.
Incidentally, W2s for PPM are generally mailed and not put on DFAS.
If you did not have a profit (it happens), then you do not need to wait because you will not get a W2.
