I think you're misreading something on the TurboTax box. Any TurboTax software is for only one specific year. It can never be used "back through" prior years. If you bought TurboTax for 2020, it's only for 2020 tax returns. To file for 2019 you have to buy TurboTax for 2019, and to file for 2018 you have to buy TurboTax for 2018. You can buy downloads for past years at the following link.
Also, there is no "Deluxe home and business." TurboTax Deluxe and TurboTax Home & Business are two different products.
Where did you buy the product that says it's "good back through 2018"? If you did not buy it from a reputable source, I'm wondering if you got something that is not what it claims to be. It might not even be TurboTax at all.
Thanks; I bought “turbotax” home & business Personal & Self-Employed from Office Depot for $99.00. I had to buy 2019 on-line. I gave my taxes to a professional preparer for 2019 but he did not file during 2020, said “because of COVID.” Now he is nowhere to be found so I’m filing 2019 and 2020 together which is fine since I overpaid my quarterlies. If your want something done right you need to do it yourself.
You can't do 2019 and 2020 "together ". You have to do each year separately. You can only mail prior year returns. For 2019 you need to buy the 2019 Desktop program. For 2020 you can buy the Desktop program or use the online version.
Sounds like you did buy a program for each year. If you do 2019 first you can transfer it into 2020 to start. If you have a 2018 tax file you might be able to transfer it into 2019 to start 2019.
You should be able to e-file 2020. When it asks for your 2019 AGI to electronically "sign" the 2020 tax return, enter zero, since you are filing 2019 late.
If you are mailing tax returns for more than one year, mail each year in a separate envelope. Never mail two tax returns in one envelope.
