I'm Confused / Frustrated / Disappointed

dffd.PNG

I have been waiting for my tax return since February 9, 2024, and I understand that this year's processing has been delayed since February 12, 2024. Despite my patience, I have yet to receive my refund. I have made multiple attempts to contact the IRS, but the current system for speaking with a live representative is highly frustrating. After a brief wait, the automated message informs me that all agents are busy, and then the call is abruptly disconnected.

This prolonged delay has been particularly challenging, as there were times when the refund would have been extremely helpful. Unfortunately, relying on its timely arrival has proven to be unreliable. What is especially disheartening is the apparent disparity in accountability. If a taxpayer owes money, there are immediate consequences. However, when it comes to receiving funds that we are entitled to, the urgency seems to diminish significantly. This inconsistency is quite perplexing.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance or clarification regarding the status of my tax return. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

x

TurboTax gets no information from the IRS or your state after your tax return is accepted for processing.  TT cannot intercede or speed them up for you, nor can TT obtain any additional information for you.   Only the IRS (or state if you are getting a state refund) can tell you what is going on.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2023 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

At the following IRS website, find the USA map and click on your state, and it will give you the number of your area's IRS Taxpayer Advocate.
