I HAD TO REFILE AN AMENDED RETURN THROUGH TURBOTAX AND THE IRS NEVER RECIEVED IT FROM YOU GUYS.

I FILED AS MARRIED FILING INDEPENDENTLY WHILE GOING THROUGH A DIVORCE. AFTER NEGOTIATING AT THE DIVORCE TABLE WE AGREED TO REFILE AS MARRIED FILING JOINTLY AND SPLIT THE RETURN. THIS WOULD SAVE ME MONEY BECAUSE I PAID IN OVER $1000 THIS YEAR. REFILING AS MARRIED FILING JOINTLY MEANS WE WOULD RECEIVE A RETURN OF OVER $3000 FOR STATE AND FEDERAL. BUT I ENDED UP GETTING A BILL FROM THE STATE IRS OFFICE RATHER THAN A CHECK, FOR OVER $1000 AND STATEMENTS IN RED INK INDICATING I NEEDED TO PAY IT IMMEDIATELY AND IT WAS NON-NEGOTIABLE. TURNED OUT MY AMENDED RETURNS I FILED THROUGH TURBOTAX WERE NEVER RECIEVED BY THE STATE IRS OFFICE. I HAD TO RESEND THEM MYSELF AND JUST GOT THAT TAKEN CARE OF. I CAN NOT GET IN TOUCH WITH THE FEDERAL OFFICE AND NEED TURBOTAX TO GET MY AMENDED FEDERAL RETURNS SENT IT SOON. MY EX-WIFE IS EXPECTING A LITTLE OVER $1500 FROM ME FOR HER HALF OF THIS, SOOO.... YEAH

A federal amended return has to be filed on a special form, Form 1040X. It cannot be e-filed. You have to print it, sign it, and file it by mail. TurboTax cannot send it for you. An amended return changing from separate returns to a joint return has to be signed by both spouses.

Good to know, lol. Thanks! I'm no tax expert, obviously. That's why people do taxes for a living. Appreciate the help

Did you not read the screens that told you that YOU had to print, sign & mail in the amended returns ?  If you failed to do so you have no one but yourself to blame since amended returns cannot be efiled.

Also ... review the amended returns to make sure they are correct ...did you pay the balance dues before you completed the amended returns ... check the state & federal ...

Look at the form 1040X …

Column A should have the figures from the original return, Column C the corrected figures and Column B the differences between the other 2 which needs an explanation on page 2 of the form 1040X.

If you completed it correctly you will see an entry on either line 16 OR 18:

On line 16 should be the amount you paid with your original return. If you paid nothing already then this line should be zero.

On line 18 should be the amount of your original refund you received. If you have not received your refund yet then you need to wait for it. If the refund changes from what you expected then this line must reflect that change.

Then you will see your extra refund on line 22 OR  the new balance due you need to pay on line 20.
