The bank rejected your direct deposit because your name was not on the account. The bank sent the tax refund back to the IRS. The IRS then would have mailed a refund check to the address on your tax return.
You should not have tried to use someone else' account. Going forward, open your own account or request that the IRS mail a check to you. Or get one of those re-loadable debit cards from a store like Walgreen's etc. and use it for your refund to go on as long as the limit is high enough to allow the amount of your refund.

Your friend's bank would have rejected the deposit and it went back to the IRS. Now the IRS has to issue a paper check and mail it to the address on your tax return. Better check to see if you have the right mailing address on your tax return, and watch your mailbox for a plain envelope----open all mail even if it looks like junk mail. The IRS uses the U.S. Postal Service so there is no tracking for the envelope your check is being sent in.
If you requested to have your TurboTax fees paid from your federal refund it is going to be even more aggravating and take longer.
If you chose to have your fees deducted from your federal refund, but entered wrong or closed bank account information for your direct deposit, you are going to have an aggravating, frustrating situation. Your refund will go back to the third party bank. The third party bank might issue and mail you a check, or they might send your refund back to the IRS and then you will have to wait for the IRS to mail you a check.
If the third party bank mails the check, it will come in a plain envelope via first class mail so make sure you open all mail and do not assume anything is junk mail without opening it. While you are waiting, make sure that the address you entered on your tax return is correct, or your problem will be even worse.

What is Refund Processing Service?
Santa Barbara Tax Products Group, LLC (SBTPG) is the bank that handles the Refund Processing Service when you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your refund. This option also has an additional charge from the bank that processes the transaction.
You can contact them SBTPG, toll-free, at 1-877-908-7228 or go to their secure website www.sbtpg.com

To be very clear----by "going forward" I mean for next year. You cannot change how you will receive this year's refund. It is going to be by check---either a check from the IRS or a check from SBTPG.
