If you already filed your tax return, you must wait to see if if is IRS Accepted or IRS Rejected.
If IRS Accepted, then you would need to file an Amended return in the software to include the 1098T in it in the Education Credit section of the return as long as you claim your own exemption and are not a dependent of anyone else and nobody else takes an education credit for you on their return.
If IRS Rejected, then you can open your return back up and add the 1098-T to the Education credit section as long as you claim your own exemption and get the return ready to efile, as long as you are not a dependent of anyone else and nobody else claims your education expenses on their return for your education expenses and exemption
I realized I forgot to include my 1098-T in the amount of $1970. Is it worth amending my taxes?
You could be missing out on Education Credits if you did not report your 1098-T form.
There are two education credits available: the American opportunity tax credit (AOTC) and the lifetime learning credit (LLC).
Since you already filed your return, wait until the IRS either accepts or rejects your return.
If the IRS rejects your return, you can make the changes and re-submit your return.
If the IRS accepts your return, you have to wait until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund. Then you can prepare an amended tax return and mail it in.
