You will have to wait for the IRS to either Accept or Reject your filed federal tax return.
The IRS will not start processing 2023 federal tax returns until January 29, 2024
If the return is rejected you can make the necessary changes to complete the return for tax year 2023 and e-file again.
If the return is accepted you will have to amend your original tax return. An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.
Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-a...
To complete and file a 2022 tax return using TurboTax you would need to purchase, download and install on a personal computer one of the 2022 desktop editions from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/
A 2022 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed using TurboTax.
Do you mean that you used 2022 information and used the current online program --- which is only for 2023? When the IRS starts to accept/reject returns on January 29, hope for a rejection. If they reject it, you can remove the incorrect information you used and replace it with your 2023 information, and then re-file 2023. If they accept the return (unlikely but possible) then you have to wait for the return to be fully processed and amend it later.
The way to file 2022 correctly:
The current online program is for 2023 only. Only a 2023 return can be prepared online and only a 2023 return can be e-filed.
Online preparation and e-filing for 2020, 2021, and 2022 is permanently closed.
To file a return for a prior tax year
If you need to prepare a return for 2020, 2021, or 2022 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign, and mail the return(s)
https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/
You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.
Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
Note: The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac. It cannot be used on a mobile device.
If you are getting a refund, there is not a penalty for filing past the deadline. If you owe taxes, the interest/penalties will be calculated by the IRS based on how much you owe and when they receive your return and payment. The IRS will bill you for this; it will not be calculated by TurboTax.
Note----when you try to e-file 2023, it is going to ask you for your 2022 AGI. The IRS does not have your 2022 AGI, so you can try using "zero" instead. If zero does not work then your 2023 return has to be filed by mail.
