I co-own a home and forgot to check the box indicating the amount of interest I entered differs from what is on my 1098 mortgage interest statement. Will that cause my return to get held up? Should I file an amended return fixing the error?

No.  You do not need to amend your return.

It is possible that the IRS will contact you about this with a letter of correction, if they do, then you just need to respond as to why the numbers are different.
