I filed my current tazes by mail. How do I know if they were accepted?

You do not mention how long ago you mailed your tax return.   If you did not use a mailing service like certified mail to send you a receipt showing the envelope was received then you will not know the IRS received your return until you can see information on the IRS refund site.  Since it can take a month or more before a human opens your envelope and enters information into the system, all you can do is keep checking on the IRS refund site until something appears there.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2022 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

OR——if you filed by mail, expect a long wait.   It is taking the very backlogged IRS six to nine months to process mailed returns.   Until a human opens your envelope and enters the data into the system, nothing will even show up on the refund site, so you will have to be very patient.

When you mail in your return, you don’t receive any notification that your return has been accepted.  All you can do is keep checking the IRS website, Where’s My Refund.  The site only updates once a day and it can take 8 to 10 weeks to show since mailed in returns are processed by hand.

You can check your refund status for Federal at the following link:

If you have a State refund, see the following:
