I did not receive my full refund.

Can someone please help! I’ve noticed that all these complaints about missing half or more then half of tax refunds aren’t getting resolved. Nor will anyone reply to all these unsettled mistakes that TurboTax and TPG have something to do with. I’ve called so many different places and I can’t get a actual human response anywhere. I’m missing more then half my refund! I have no outstanding payments that I owe and I DID specify in the questions that I DID receive the stimulus. So there is no reason why I shouldn’t have received my complete amount

In this public forum, we cannot diagnose why your refund has been reduced.  For additional information, please see this TurboTax help article: Why is my refund direct-deposit or check lower than the amount in TurboTax?

The IRS would be able to provide insight as to why your refund was lower than expected. You can contact them by following the steps in this help article: How do I contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)?

The same thing is happening to me!!! I am not going to receive my full payment either because of bull**bleep** excuses that don't apply to me. I did all the correct steps and answered all the questions correct and yet my refund got cut in half as well. Wat is the reason for this??what is the next step after getting robbed of the money we worked hard for all year to provide for are familys!!?????

The next step is to wait for the IRS to send you a letter to let you know why they adjusted your return.  The most likely scenarios are that your tax return included a recovery rebate or child tax credit that the IRS has already sent to you, or you have an offset for some other debt.  This year, by far the more common is that your tax return included an amount on Line 28 or Line 30 that was greater than what IRS records indicate you are permitted.  It's not an issue anyone on this board or at Turbotax can help you with - because it's not a TurboTax issue.

You have not been "robbed" and your tax refund, which is probably more money than you paid in to begin with, isn't money you worked for.

I am not able to get anyone on the phone. And non of them applys to me the reasoning it says the SS number given for one or more of the dependents claimed was incorrect or missing. Or the last name of a dependent does not match the records they have for me. One or more dependents exceeds the age limits for a claim. And or I made over 75,000 dollars . And non of these apply to me. And I did not literally mean that I worked for I mean that I have the right as an American to get credited for.

Once a return is accepted by the IRS, no one  (including TurboTax) gets any more information except you.

As super helpful Community member @SDun12 said, the IRS will send you a letter explaining any adjustment. They are short staffed. It is difficult, and often nearly impossible to speak with someone over these.

You can check your RIS Online Account to check the amount of your original stimulus payment and see it that's what you claimed. If the number is different that may be the reason for the adjustment.

I did not receive half of my refund and thought it was due to some discrepancies till i saw a lot of people complaining about the same thing. TPG products only deposited part of the money and still haven't received the rest. What is going on? When do i receive?

@Teekay2020

TurboTax does not get any information from the IRS after you file your tax return, so no one at TT knows why your refund was less.

You have not mentioned any specific amounts.  Sometimes we can make an educated guess as to the reason for your reduced refund if you mention specific amounts--for example if your refund was short by $1400 per person---it is likely to be a mix up regarding the 3rd EIP payment.    If you received the 3rd stimulus check of $1400 per person in 2021 then you got letter 6475 from the IRS about it.   You needed to enter the amount you received.   If you already received that money then line 30 on your Form 1040 should have been blank.

If it is short by $1800 or  $1500 or  a multiple of that amount  ---   maybe a mixup regarding the advance child tax credit payments. If you received monthly child tax credit payments of $250 or $300 per month between July and December of 2021, then you got letter 6419 from the IRS, and you were required to enter the amount of the advance payments.   Only the remaining amount of the CTC should have been on line 28 of your Form 1040.

The IRS knows how much they sent to you for the 3rd stimulus check and they know how much they sent for advance child tax credit payments.   If you answered something incorrectly on your tax return then the IRS made a correction that resulted in a reduced refund for you.

Or---the fees you were supposed to pay for using TurboTax + the "refund processing fee" charged by the third party bank….

Did you choose to have TT fees deducted from your Federal refund?  (Remember that if you did that, you also agreed to an extra refund processing fee of $39.99 or $44.99 in CA)

What is Refund Processing Service?

The IRS will send you a letter that explains why your refund was reduced or why you owe more.   Meanwhile it might help you to check your online IRS account.

If you need to trace a payment that the IRS says has been issued to you, mail or fax a completed IRS Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund.
