How long after the bank rejects my refund will it take the IRS to issue me a paper check

I called on 28th and IRS rep said she was reissuing check and takes 4-6 weeks. Didnt sound right so I called back on the 30th and different rep said 1st one put a trace on it and that was wrong!! New rep sent referral to REVIEW DEPT. Since they are the ones with the refund. And that i should give them 60 days to contact me or send check out!!! Being it's already been 3 months i am not gonna just wait 2 more months and hope they send it. I finally got a tax advocate a couple days ago and hope to hear from them tomorrow and they said the IRS owes me interest cuz it took so long

Sorry that happened to you @sfozzy2350. I've never waited this long in my life to receive my refund. When I spoke to the IRS rep that released my refund he said there had been no new notes in my account. That means my refund has literally sat there untouched for 3 months and no good reasoning. I'm irritated because I've seen people receive their refund in days after the bank rejected it, but yet here we are still waiting months later. Thursday will be 2 weeks since the IRS released it. If I don't see any update in WMR by then I'm going to call again and make sure the process is rolling and if not, I'll be reaching out to a tax advocate. Will you please let me know how it turns out for you? It seems people stop replying to this thread once they receive their refund which helps no one know how long the process truly takes. Hoping we get our money that's owed to us soon!

Well it happened to me. Today marks 3 weeks since the IRS "released" my refund so I gave them a call yesterday since there's been no Update on WMR. The lady I spoke with said the previous person I talked to "didn't have the authority" to release my refund so she would be sending a request to the review department to let them know they are over their time limit and they need to release the refund which could take another 60 freaking days. So now, if they take the full 60 days before I receive it, that would mean the IRS has literally held my refund hostage for 6 freaking months. Never in my life have I seen such incompetence. Complete bs.

My 10 weeks was up June 3rd, & it was released the exact same day, & I know have a due date for june 28. So that's 3 weeks after it was released & I got interest on the amount I had.

@mistakes2019 Make sure you call back to the IRS and make sure it was really released because I thought mine was released the same day my 10 weeks was up too, but when I called 3 weeks after they released it the next person I spoke to told me the first person didn't have the authority to release it and she had to send it to the review department which would take up to an additional 60 days. So I would call them back and make sure the process is still rolling, especially if you haven't had WMR update yet.

Yes mines was really released, my wmr updated today with a mail out date! & I double checked was it really released a week after also.

@mistakes2019 Well good for you, I'm glad you're finally getting yours! Did the rep you talked to at the IRS release it or did they send it to the review department first?

When i called the rep said it gave him a option to either release it or send in a referral. So he checked further into my account & said there's no reason why their still holding on, so he hit released. & we was on the phone for a extra 20mins when he was releasing to make sure it actually was gone let him do it.

@mistakes2019 Dang I wish my rep would have been that thorough, but he said he released it for me and that was that. But now here I am probably still going to be waiting at least a few more weeks.

When was your 10 week mark?, & it sounds like they giving you the run around. But you should definitely have some interest on yours like I will have. Try calling them this week & seeing if there's a reason their still holding in to it.

May 27th was my 10 week mark. Called them on the 28th and he said he was releasing it and told me it would take 3-4 weeks for me to get my check. WMR hadn't updated so right at the 3 week mark on June 19th, I called and thats when the lady told me the previous guy didnt have the authority to release so she was going to send the referral to the review department and tell them "their time was up". I'm calling back Monday to make sure that was actually done and hopefully we won't have to wait an additional 60 days.

Yeah, & maybe you should look into getting a tax advocate if they don't give you any update monday.

@Quiita871 Yes I received my check on July 8th. My original direct deposit was supposed to be deposited on 02/27. So the whole process after that to receive my check took a whopping 18 weeks. Keep in contact with the IRS once a week and check the status. That's my best advice. Sorry you're going through this as well.
