I paid my tax 2021 using turbo tax account but it was not deducted from my account on the scheduled date. I need to confirm with the state tax department for payment. State tax department told me I have to pay my tax as they do not have anything in their system about my payment initiation. I paid my tax again with a penalty. after a week of my payment, my initial tax payment as deducted from my account. I paid my tax twice now. How can I get refund of my excess tax payment? Please advice.
@sathyageetha24 Contact the state to sort out the duplicate payment. Make sure you have your credit card records in front of you to show the dates they took out the payments.
I had to write to them a couple times and if you don't get a response go to IRS.gov and at the bottom of the page click on advocate and check there for a form you can fill out. I got my refund after paying twice in less than a week.
@gt2252 The question above was about a state tax payment. The IRS does not process state income tax returns. The OP needs to deal with their state, not the IRS -- for a state tax issue.
This happened to me for 2024 tax year. We received a check in the mail from the US treasury on July 1st, 2024 with no explanation. It was for the exact amount we owed on our 2024 taxes.
I logged into the IRS' web portal and low and behold, it showed that I paid twice, once on the day I e-filed (February 12, 2024) and again on the day I had set it up to autopay (April 15th, 2024).
No idea how or why I paid on e-file day but will pay allot closer attention this year.
@jstbhbartlett85 And did you check your bank account or credit card to see that it was paid twice? You never noticed? Was one payment on your credit card and one out of your bank account?
I am currently having the same problem I recently completed my taxes and paid for the deluxe which totaled to $219.00. However, I was later emailed by turbo tax that it was not complete so I redid my taxes over again and submitted another tax return only to realize that I was charged twice on my credit card. The main issue I am encountering is that when I call the support line it is all by an automatic robot and I need to speak to a representative. I am concerned because I was charged twice and I do not know if I will get a refund. If anyone has a solution to my current problem please reach out. Thank you for the help in advance!

If you were charged twice by TurboTax, Contact TurboTax Support and say 'Billing' for your reason for calling and you should get to a person.
