How do I verify that I entered the correct bank account for my refund? And if I did not how do I change it?

Look near the bottom of your tax form 1040 to see what account information you entered. If it is not correct, you can't change it after your return is filed and accepted. If the IRS is unable to direct deposit your refund, they will issue a check and mail it to the address on your tax return.

if I was supposed to have it deposited by may 3rd and it wasn't a valid account would they have mailed it by now?

Was May 3rd the date shown on the IRS tracking web site? https://www.irs.gov/refunds
I don't know how long it would take for the IRS to issue a check and mail it to you. You could call the IRS and ask: 800 829-1040

Yes it said it would be sent to my bank on May 3rd. If I didn't get it by May 8th then call the bank and ask why I didn't receive it. I just verified that I entered the wrong account number and that phone number doesn't let you speak with anyone they will just give me the same dates I just mentioned via an automated message. Thank you for your help though.

Did you have any TurboTax fees that you chose to pay out of the Federal refund? If so, the funds go first from the IRS to an intermediary bank where the funds are subtracted. We can tell you how to check with the intermediary bank if that's your situation. If the deposit from that intermediary bank to your bank fails, it bounces back to the intermediary bank, not the IRS. The intermediary bank would then be issuing your paper check. So let us know if you used that service to pay fees.

Here's how to reach a live agent at the IRS. Once you dial that number, you have to navigate the phone tree properly to reach an agent.

IRS: 800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Mon-Fri

Listen to each menu before making the selection.

First choose your language. Press 1 for English.

Then do not choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
Instead, press 2 for "personal income tax".
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions." It should then transfer you to an agent, but there is likely to be a long wait.

I usually use a speakerphone so I can work on something else while waiting.

I did use that service to pay fees! I spoke with someone at the IRS they told me that turbotax uses greendot and they gave me the phone number 866-795-7597 and I could not speak with anyone. The IRS told me that the bank info they had has the money going to greendot first. I would like to contact greendot and prevent them from sending the refund to the wrong account that I entered and also to not send it back to the IRS because that will take another 5 weeks for me to get the refund. I simply want to correct the bank information for greendot to send it to the proper account.

Greendot is used for prepaid debit cards. I wasn't aware that they are an intermediary bank. Here is the intermediary bank info for the bank which I'm aware of which is Santa Barbara Tax Products Group: SBTPG, toll-free, at 1-877-908-7228 or go to their secure website www.sbtpg.com

Try contacting SBTPG first to see if they have received it.

Green Dot Bank is one of the 2 banks that SBTPG uses when you pay fees out of your Federal refund (Civista Bank is the other.) I'll tell you how to log into your temporary account at SBTPG, and how to contact them.

See if your temporary account there at SBTPG will let you change the deposit info. SBTPG used to allow people to do that a couple of years ago, but with all the ID theft going on these days, they may have quit allowing people to make those kinds of changes on their own. And if they are able to do it for you, they might need photocopies of ID documents, etc. so they can ID that you are really who you say you are.

If you chose to pay your TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, your funds will first go to a temporary account at an intermediary bank--either Civista Bank of Sandusky, Ohio, or Green Dot Bank. At the intermediary bank the fees are subtracted, then the rest of your funds are sent on to your bank in a second deposit. The company that handles that is SBTPG (Santa Barbara Tax Products Group.)

Less commonly there can be delays at the intermediary bank, and additional ID info, etc. might be required.

If for any reason the second deposit fails (the one that is actually to your bank), it will bounce back to SBTPG's bank who will issue you a paper check in the mail.

Once the IRS has released your funds, you can log into your temporary account at SBTPG to see the status of your funds.

To log in, choose the taxpayer portal at:

SBTPG also has a 24-hour automated phone line with information about your refund, as well as live support during the day. Here is the contact page. Scroll down about half way to see the Live Support number and 24-hour automated support number.
