@sherij I also am feeling your pain. :-). I have been trying to work through this for the past week or so. My experience so far finds that you and I can no longer print these forms on the official IRS red forms through Turbo Tax or even QEF. It is incredibly unfortunate that we bought the Turbo Tax product and then have to retype all of our data into a completely different second product.
I did finally find the QEF online product interface in Turbo Tax and filed the IRS portion electronically... BUT I still had to retype all my data into QEF online to make it work. It seems fairly obvious to me that if we already have the data in Turbo Tax, there should be a way to export/import into QEF if Turbo Tax is not going to include the option for 1099s and 1096.
Anyway, I got mine filed and am done for now. Good Luck !
If you are interested in printing the above mentioned forms for your business, you can do so using Quick Employer Forms (QEF). QEF can be accessed when using:
Here is the link to access Quick Employer Forms.

Thank you but how to I get to QEF? Whenever I click on the link for QEF, TT takes me to the TT site to purchase the TT Home and Business software which I already have. Does QEF import data from TT Home and Business or is there a way to invoke QEF from within TT Home and Business?
I can't seem to find a way to get into QEF to utilize it.
You do not need to purchase any software. To get to the section with the QEFs within TurboTax:
I have done this but it's not printing ONLY the business and non-employee info. It is printing the entire 1099-NEC and 1096 form with all of the verbiage for those forms. I have the official IRS red forms that I need to print only the information that I entered for the business and the non-employee compensation. How do I do that?
You really should be e-filing the forms. Then you don't file any paperwork with the IRS, just print a copy to give to your payee.
I think you also misunderstand the "red" form. Read the instructions carefully here.

The red form you can download from the IRS is NOT to be submitted to the IRS. If you want to submit a paper form to the IRS, you have to order the official forms from the IRS or a business supply store, see for example

That's a form you run through a laser or inkjet printer, to make 6 copies. Copy A for the IRS is the approved IRS red ink version.
But just e-file instead.

If you bought the official red forms and need the box details printed, I suspect you can't do that with Turbotax, the program isn't designed for that. That's a Quickbooks function.
@VolvoGirl might know more.
Correct. I have already ordered the red forms. I am just trying to use the software to print onto those inkjet printed forms to mail in.
Okay. Thanks for the advice. I was hoping to be able to do all of this through the software. What a bummer because I already purchased and opened the forms so I won't be able to return them. 🙄
I don't have Quickbooks.
The software should be more clear as to what can and cannot be done. I bought it with the idea of doing the 1096 and 1099 nec to mail in. And also doing my business taxes when that time comes.
You can hand copy or type the info from the Turbo Tax printout onto the red forms. I used to go to the library to use the typewriter to type up one. Or if you don't have many, you can renter it again into Quick Employer Forms so you can efile the forms to the IRS.
Okay, thank you.
I actually found a company online 1099misctemplate.com that let me enter the info then I just printed it onto the forms to mail to the IRS. It was only $3.49 to do so. I have a client that prefers to mail those forms in so I went that route but I appreciate all the comments and feedback.
Thanks but I am not running TT Online. I am running TT Home and Business. It certainly appears that there are no options to print the 1099-NEC and 1096 forms on the IRS preprinted forms within TT. I finally got to the QEF and filed electronically. Not what is was looking for but it worked. Was not happy about having to re-type all my information into QEF. Double work is never productive.
I'm done now. No further action required. Thanks again for your response !!
Thanks for your response. I actually do understand red forms. I had already purchased them from Office Depot. The IRS specifically states that you must use the red forms so that they can be scanned or be subject to penalty.
