You are wrong ... the IP PIN they sent you in Jan of 2023 is to be used on ALL tax returns you file in 2023 for any and all tax years. So if you are filing the 2022 return or any other prior year you must use the 2023 IP PIN they just issued to you. And next January of 2024 you will get a new number to use on any and all returns you file in 2024.
And don't forget, if you are trying to file 2021 taxes, you'll have to print them out and mail them in.
Sign/date in the place indicated on the last page of the form 1040, and you'll see a place on the same line for your IP PIN. The current prep of 2022 taxes can still be e-filed with TurboTax, just not any prior years.
Don't forget to include the Federal copy of any W-2 forms you have, plus any other various 1099-??? income forms that show Federal withholding on them.
It is not clear what you are asking about. Your post refers to a "PTIN" number. If you used TurboTax, you cannot put a PTIN on the tax return. That is a number used only by a paid tax preparer. TurboTax cannot be used by paid tax preparers.
Are you confusing that with a six-digit PIN issued to you by the IRS? If you mean you got a six-digit PIN from the IRS, please refer to the replies above regarding that number.
Oooooh...good point.
I never considered that this person might actually asking about a "Professional" preparer's PTIN.
We're only dealing with self-prepared tax returns from the huddled masses of a gazillion regular homebody taxpayers in this public forum.
