if the IRS told you, then the only way to correct the error is to file an amended return correcting your name.
The IRS only checks the first 4 letters of your last name ... everything else can be dead wrong. If the return was successfully efiled then you have nothing to amend ... simply correct the error on next year's return. If the return rejects then you can make the change and resubmit the return.
"I am told" - by whom?
First of all, Did you efile? Was it Accepted?
You can check your efile status here,
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup
When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile.
If the IRS accepted it then it should be ok. But if the bank rejects your refund because the name is wrong the IRS will mail a check to the address on your return.
