there are thousands of possible reasons. one major one was that the withholding tables employers were to use were incorrect often resulted in under-withholding.

Tax amend refund thru TurboTax desktop is less than the difference of what I overpaid and the corrected amount. I overpaid by $1000 but only getting $900 back.
