Question

How can I e-file an amended 2022 federal return using TT for Mac desktop version?

My federal and state returns have both hit my bank account.  I'm filing a 1040x because I made a stupid mistake (failed to include two 1099-R forms).  TT is not giving me the option to e-file the federal return.  The only button is "print return."  Interestingly, the state of CA will let me e-file (apparently).

Yes, you can e-file a 2022 amended return (Form 1040X) as stated in the following TurboTax Help article:  Can I e-file my 1040X to amend my return?  Can I e-file my 1040X to amend my return?

How? TT desktop is not showing me that option. The only button shown is "print."  See attached.

Did you get your refund today. I'm in Georgia. My DD day is 23rd.

You might try to run a manual update to be able to access e-filing your Amended CA return.

To manually update for Windows, please see the Help Article here.  For Mac, please see this Help Article.

To troubleshoot a Windows installation.

To troubleshoot a Mac installation.

Thank you, Heather.  I did all that, but nothing really changed.  Just for kicks, I clicked the "Continue" button on the screen shown earlier.  That took me to a screen where I was informed I could e-file my federal and state returns.  Might want to change the wording in that box above to let people know it's more than just the state return to be e-filed.

Best,

Tony

I got an email asking me to evaluate the quality of advice I received. Following the suggestions took about an hour of my time and did not solve the problem. It turned out that the TT user interface had instructions that were misleading (to put it mildly).  I’ve been using TT since the Chipsoft days. Until now, I have been very happy with it. This year has been a cascade of failures. I will spend time over the next 12 months looking into alternatives. Those who are curious should search on “transmission failure” to see another, more serious, problem.
