For those tax filers who have not yet filed a 2019 tax return, TurboTax recommends that they file their 2019 tax return now to get their tax refund and stimulus check quickly. This will ensure that the IRS has the most current tax filing and direct deposit information, which they will use to determine individual stimulus check amounts.
If you will be receiving a stimulus check but you have not filed taxes in 2018 or 2019, the TurboTax Stimulus Registration product was designed to help millions easily file a minimum tax return with the IRS. The tax return will have the information needed to determine stimulus eligibility.
If you have filed taxes in 2018 or 2019 but want to change your direct deposit information for the stimulus check, see this statement in this TurboTax Help.
“In the coming weeks, the Treasury plans to develop a web-based portal for you to provide your banking information to the IRS online so that you can receive payments immediately as opposed to checks in the mail.”
This portal is not yet available.

Question for James (tax help)
If you have multiple checking accounts listed on the 2019 tax return but one account on 2018 tax return.
Do you know possibly how the deposit will be handled? Or would the elective be a paper check for the stimulus payment?
Thank you.
The IRS will send paper checks as a last resort. If they have any direct deposit information on file for you, they will use that first.
I can't say for sure, but I assume they would not bather splitting the stimulus payment. In most likelihood they will use the account you listed first on your most recent return.
Thank you.
That would be my choice if they did.
Just curious how they would handle it.
Below is an IRS on the latest news.
I no longer have a bank account how will i get my stimulus check from the irs?
You will need to wait for the Treasury to set up the web portal for you to enter the banking information. If you did not have a refund with Direct Deposit, the IRS does not have your banking information.

See more info here on the Treasury website.
I had a bank account when I filed my taxes but I closed it. Will the irs be sending it in a check to the address they have? Or can I still wait to set up my direct deposit on the treasury website?

I got the turbo tax card for 2019 tax return but used a different account for 2018. Will they put it on the turbo tax card or the one I used for 2018? I prefer the 2018 account but I doubt they will use that one as 2019 was more recent but have been reading that it hasn't been decided if they will be depositing on the turbo tax cards. Also I have moved since filing my 2019 taxes. So if they won't be using the turbo tax card I need to know if they will use the account for 2018 or mailing a check.
I think 2019 information will be used first.
Need to change direct deposit info
