You do not say how long your son has been incarcerated. So sorry. But----in order to claim a dependent you have to be able to say you provided their support. If he is incarcerated, his support is being provided by the department of corrections. Money you send for snacks, or incidental expenses, is not enough to claim that you support him--- that would be a gift to him. Gifts to individuals are not deductible.
