Filed my 2020 tax return (taxes due), but I meant to file an extension

I filed my taxes last night due to the fact that I had taxes owed.

However, I realized that what I really needed to do was to file an extension.

In this case, since I already had filed my tax return (Federal + 1 state), do I have to amend them instead?

Was something on the return incorrect or incomplete?   If so, once it is e-filed and accepted, it is gone.   If there are mistakes, you will need to wait for the return to be processed and then amend.
