Filed Amended Return And Stimulus Payment

I sent in a amended 1040 X over 14 weeks ago which it should have been there at the IRS now for a little over 13 weeks and I see it looks like they have now been opening mail in the Austin facility for 8 weeks but the check my amended return is not showing it as received yet.  2018 my adult daughter filed her taxes and could not be claimed by us but for some reason when she filed the 2019 return checked off the box saying she could be claimed by us.  She did not notice it until after the IRS announced the payments would not go to people who can be claimed by others.  She sent in an amended return to get it fixed and hoped to get it fixed in time to get a stimulus check and before you all go to tell me about how it is a credit advanced and that she will just get to keep the credit on her 2020 return when she files it instead of it being advanced now I would love for you to explain to me how you feel that someone who usually only gets 500.00 back is to expect to get 1200.00 since she didn't get it with the rest of us when she never has gotten that much before.  As the stimulus they were giving it up front and once you file the credit was removed on the filed taxes but for those who got that and never go that before it was forgiven- so all in all if she doesn't get it now, then all I see is her getting screwed in the end and getting just her little tiny 500.00 as usual which is 700.00 less than the stimulus that was going to forgive the extra 700.00.

Anyone know if they are going to get this amended returns done before the end of the year and if so are they going to be sending the 1200.00 or is she going to get screwed out of the extra 700.00?

Filed Amended Return And Stimulus Payment

@legalassistmom No one  in this user forum is going to go out on a limb and promise that your daughter's amended return will be processed in time for her to receive a stimulus check this year.  Mailed returns have been piled up in trailers for months, and the IRS is just beginning to dig through them.  Under "normal" conditions it takes at least four months for an amended return to be processed, and right now they are taking much longer.  The only way you will know anything about the amended return is by watching the IRS site for amended returns to see if the IRS has even opened the envelope it was in.

"I sent in a amended 1040 X over 14 weeks ago"  That part is confusing.  Who amended--you, your daughter, or both of you?

If you amended too--- that is two separate amended returns that have to be processed in order for your daughter to get a stimulus check.

We all want our children to get that money if they qualify for it, of course.  But the chances of it happening this year are realistically not good.  And --you do not want us to tell you this-- but it is an advance credit and she CAN get it on her tax return next year if it does not work out in 2020.

Not sure what you mean by the "extra $700"  -- that did not make sense.  Her income tax refund is completely separate from the $1200 stimulus amount.  When and if she gets the stimulus it should be for the $1200.  Not sure what $500 you were referring to--but guessing that is what her income tax refund should be.

"explain to me how you feel ....."   What anyone trying to answer you "feels" is irrelevant.  We do not answer your questions based on how we feel.  We try to give you the best answers we can give you based on the facts and what we know about how  taxes and the IRS work.
