File amended 2022 return with Turboxtax Desktop

I filed my 2022 tax return electronically using Turbotax desktop.  I realized I have made a mistake and need to amend my return.  I am under the impression I should be able to e-file the amended return, but when I go into the desktop version, it is indicating I am going to need to print and mail the return.   Will I be able to efile an amended return using Turbotax desktop?   If so, is there an ETA on when it will be available?

Thank you in advance.

If you are amending your 2022 return, yes you can e-file it.   Please see this TurboTax help article for more information: Can I e-file my 1040X to amend my return?

Has your original return been accepted?

Yes, my return was accepted.  When I go to area in turbo tax to amend my return it says I will need to print it and mail it in.  Very confusing

Make sure you don't have multiple accounts, and are in the account with the 2022 tax return. Prior year tax returns have to be mailed in. You can e-file your 2022 1040-X to the IRS if you e-filed it. Follow these instructions to amend a prior-year return.

As originally stated, this is the desktop version.

I don't have multiple accounts.  When I click the option to amend my return it says I will need to print my return and mail it in.  This is even before actually amending my return.  Very confusing 😟

The OP asked for an ETA when the 1040-X would be availablein the desktop version but that part of the question was never answered.  So what is the ETA?

Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, is currently available for print and e-filing in TurboTax desktop.

Please see TurboTax's Tax form availability page for more information.

That is great but I have looked through every menu in the desktop version and I don't see how to amend my original return.  Where can I view the steps to take to amend the routine or at least get started.

To amend your return in the Desktop version of TurboTax:

  1. Open the TurboTax CD/Download software for the year you want to amend
  2. Under Need to File an Amended Return?, select Amend a Filed Return
  3. Select Amend for the return you need to amend
  4. On the We’ll help you change (amend) your return screen, select Continue
  5. Select Yes, I’ve already filed my return
  6. Choose the option that best applies when asked Tell us a little more about your amend situation, then select Continue
  7. On the next screen, select Update next to the information that you need to change
  8. Proceed through the ensuing screens.  Make any changes you need to make, and carefully answer the remaining questions to finish amending your return
  9. Select Save As (or Duplicate on Mac) from the File menu when you save a copy of your amended return. This will preserve the tax return you originally filed

Give this file a different name from the original, such as 2022_amended_tax_return_Alberts

Thank you for this post.  Please note that when I select the option to amend my return it says I will have to print and mail my return.  The truth is that is not true.  If you actually begin amending your return you will eventually get to the screen to e-file the return.   Please take the text away on the very first screen that says I will need to print and email my return.   I was able to e-file my amended return, but no thanks to that first screen that confused me.

You will need to wait until the return is accepted before you complete an amendment. Instructions for the process can be found here in our Help Article.

Where do I find the "Amend" option ?

I don't see it anywhere on my desktop version (Turbotax Delux) under any menu option.

Trying to file an amended 2022 1040 Federal form.

Already accepted.  Received updated 1099's from institutions.

Thank you
