Hi,
Federal and CA State taxes were completed, filed and accepted. Refund due from state was received minus $224 +/-. Figured this went to the Fed as it was the amount I owed. Checked in to Turbo tax prior to the deadline for making tax payments, July 15, 2020; Turbo tax said everything was completed and no further action needed on my part.
Receive notice from Fed on Aug 11, 2020 stating I still owe the $224.
Please advise.
Thanks,
Tom

Current year Taxes owed can never be deducted from a tax refund, federal or state.
If you are viewing an amount for the Total tax refund on the TurboTax Tax Home web page, that is the NET between the refund and the taxes owed. It does not mean anything was paid from a refund.
How you chose to pay the taxes owed is on the Filing Instructions for your state tax return.
Sign onto your TurboTax online account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down and click on Add a State. This will take you back to the 2019 online tax return.
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Then click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.
The payment had to be made thru your bank or CC ... check those statements for the payment. If you did make it then send proof of the payment with a note saying the tax was paid as directed on the notice.
