Email showing that the IRS has approved my return

I usually receive an email telling me that the IRS has approved my tax return, but I can’t find it. I know the return was approved. Is there a way to locate such a message? I used a downloaded version of Turbo Tax.

Awaiting advice!

Email showing that the IRS has approved my return

You do not receive an email that says the return was "approved."   You get an email that tells you that the e-file was "accepted" or rejected.   Accepted is not the same as "approved."   Approval is a later stage and only comes from the IRS after they have processed your return.

Note:  “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”.  TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing.   Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing.  If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.

You can check your own emails---we have no access to your email.   If you used the desktop software you can also go into your own program and check to see what it says when you click on the tool bar for "Check E-filing Status".   Go up to the tool bar on the top of the TT screen and go to the last one on the right--"FILE" -click it and then click Check e-filing status.

You can also track your own refund on the IRS refund site:

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities.  There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2024 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing

Email showing that the IRS has approved my return

On a Window's computer the Check File Status is under File, the first item on the LEFT.  Open your return and go up to menu item

File > Electronic Filing > Check Electronic Filing Status

Then save your return with the status. Go to File-Save.

And When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile.

There is also an Electronic Postmark page saying when you filed and when the IRS accepted it.  You can find it in Forms Mode.  Probably near the end. That is your proof and signature.
