Please know that is the IRS that has to approve your return, not Turbo Tax. It varies, but normally it takes 24-48 hours. Also, the identity-protection safeguards implemented by the IRS in recent years may account for longer wait times. Eventually, you will receive an email letting you know whether or not your return has been accepted or rejected. TurboTax FAQ "What does Pending mean? "states, "Pending simply means that your e-filed return is on its way and that the government hasn't accepted or rejected it yet.
E-filed returns generally sit in Pending status for 24-48 hours before coming back as either Accepted or Rejected. Sometimes state returns stay in Pending for several days or even longer. If you contact the government or try to look up your refund status while your return is still pending, don't be surprised if they tell you "no record found." This is normal; until the government starts reviewing and processing your return, they won't have any record of it."
What does "Pending" mean?
TurboTax should not let you e-File four times while e-File No.1 is pending.
If e-File No.1 is ACCEPTED, the following submissions must be REJECTED.
my taxes have been filed 4 times now this year with one of them sitting in Pending status for 10 days. I requested my live advisor to re-file and it has been 3 days again.
There are several reasons why your tax return would still be pending, but only the IRS can move that process along. Every time you send in a new tax return for the same year, it causes everything to slow down. Each one will now be reviewed individually and take longer to process. Pending simply means that the government hasn't accepted or rejected your tax return yet. Please see the information available here for assistance.
When you e-file your tax return, you will receive two emails. The first email only confirms the transmission was received. The second email will state if the IRS or your state either accepted or rejected your e-file. Please see the information in this TurboTax FAQ that explains in more detail the pending process here.
