I will most likely mail in the return to the IRS with a statement of changes and see if they accept it. If not next step is tax preparer. I will owe on personal taxes, so going to wait until mid April to see if they accept my mail in one.
@tmorrison14 were you finally able to e-file your amended 1120s electronically via TT? I am on the same boat and very frustrated by the lack of capability of TT in efiling amended returns. What was your final solution: paper filing or using a tax preparer? any insight is appreciated.
E-filing an amended 1120-S with TurboTax Business is not supported.
It seems Taxact is supporting efiling 1120x. Do not understand why Turbotax is not. I guess I need to switch to Taxact next year.
TurboTax does not support filing an amended business income tax return (e.g., 1120-X).
Make absolutely sure any other provider supports e-filing an amended income tax return for an entity.
has the 2022 Turbo Tax Business Product addressed the prior year deficiency? I filed my 2022 1120S Return for my S Corp, and Maryland Business Tax return yesterday; but I realized I made a mistake (one number). I have created a separate file and checked the amended option when I restarted the process. Will I be able to file the amended return? when I tried efiling the amended return I get a message "YOU HAVE NO RETURNS ELIGIBLE FOR EFILING" According to this IRS article, amended 1120 s returns MUST BE EFILED https://wwWw.irs.gov/businesses/corporations/amended-and-superseding-corporate-returns#:~:text=The%2....
I could not find state of MD instructions to efile an amended MARYLAND FORM 510/511D PASS-THROUGH ENTITY DECLARATION OF ESTIMATED INCOME TAX
Your issue was creating a new separate tax file instead of amending the return you already efiled successfully ... go back and amend the filed return and get rid of the unneeded file.
You can and should save the original tax return tax file for safekeeping (usually on a removable storage medium) but you must amend the return the IRS accepted originally ... without that "accepted original" being recognised you will not be able to efile the amended return.
I have saved the original 1120-S file as a different .tax2022 file. Checked the Amended box. But the file shows as Return Accepted and it won't allow me to submit for e-File. Is there away to clear the new .tax2022 file efile status? I created a completely new.tax2022 file and reentered the data. When attempting to efile the new return, clicking the orange button comes back with a message saying there is already a return submitted with the same EIN. I have 4 days to resubmit as "superseding" before the March 15th deadline. If I can't get an answer that works, I guess I'll submit it by paper as Amended. IRS still says if we efile the first return, must efile the second return. Any suggestions?

There is simply no way around this issue with TurboTax Business; you have to print and mail your amended return.
I took all the steps that you have taken and none of them worked. I finally filed on paper but it has almost 4 months and all I've received back from them is a letter saying they received my correspondence and would respond once they got to it. So I still have no idea yet whether they found it acceptable. But I agree with tagteam, I think all you can do at this point is to print and mail.
Thanks for the feedback. Just wanted to see if anything had changed.
I'm dropping intuit products as much as I can because of bizarre issues like this. This company is a dinosaur who is unable to address what seems to be the most basic and a straight forward issue. As others have said IRS requires e-filed amended 1120s, but intuit couldn't care less.
So far I have dropped
- quickbooks
- corporate payroll
I've never looked back.
2023 is going to be the *last* tax year using turbotax for business, only because I already paid for it (actually charged by Intuit automatically without my explicit permission).
I'm still using turbotax for personal taxes, but hope to move away from it as well.
Has anyone found the solution to this? I’m having the same issue in 2024 and I can’t believe they didn’t fix it yet, this is so disappointing.
What did you switch to from Quickbooks? I HATE Quickbooks!
Also, I screwed up one number on my 1120S which flowed through to my State Biz tax filing CD401-S (NC state franchise tax filing.) I had the wrong number for my shareholder equity which has no bearing on taxes paid to the fed or state at biz or personal level.
I'm debating how/if I should resubmit my 1120S. The worksheet (M-2) isn't actually required for my federal return but I did it anyway because North Carolina requires it. (Also, NC is least friendly state for business....)
I filed an extension, so not sure if I need to file as an ammended return, or as a superseded return. (My taxes aren't technically do until Oct 15th due to extension, so I think that would be a superseded return.)
I've heard you physically write superseded on the 1120S and just mail it in, but that doesn't seem right.
Zero guidance from Turbotax. If they allowed efiling of superseded/ammended filings, that would be great.
Superseded and Amended returns are the same thing.
