I would like to know why is it I had to pay to have my taxes done through you guys this year 115$ and I used the free edition. Come to find out I got a letter from the IRS stating I never claimed the Earned Income Credit which would have increased my refund? Why was this not reviewed? Turbo tax fills in the blanks after you enter the company name and number into there system? You blame people saying we entered something wrong but you can see I had earned income even if it wasn’t a lot. Now I have to sit here and wait for another return. I honestly don’t think I using you next year and I have been using Turbo Tax for many years. I see why the IRS would screw up but what’s your excuse!

When using TurboTax to file your taxes, you should go through each question step by step. If you choose to skip sections, it is very possible that you will miss relevant questions. TurboTax, does not automatically give you certain credits as additional information is required. If you did not provide that additional information, forms are not generated for that particular credit including the EIC.
Although, TurboTax makes filing taxes easy for most people, it is best to never skip sections and take the extra time to read each question and go through all of the deductions and credits.
Well, In all the years I’ve used turbo tax this was the first year it’s been missed it’s always gone in.
Same here... now I get a letter from the irs asking why I didn't claim it. Had to fill out a form and mail it back to irs.
Well now god knows when we are going to get our Earned Income Credit refund. Because it’s the end of the tax season, and they are already behind. We probably won’t get it now until next year. Many people with children really need this money. And the fact the price of everything is so high we as American shouldn’t have to worry about this especially when your living pay check to pay check. Hopefully I hear something soon it’s already week four since I sent the paper back.
Has anyone heard back from the IRS about the letter they received about Earned income tax credit? I’ve tried calling, guess I’m just gonna give up. Lost money
@Latimer @Jotty2020 - I must admit that a) I don't understand why the IRS is sending out these letters and b) no one yet on these boards stated they have had a response and c) no one on these boards admits they should have received EITC and didn't, just that the IRS is inquiring and encouraging it.
I am not aware there is anything "special" for a taxpayer to do when completing TT to get EITC. Once you enter you dependent children and income, EITC is calculating off that.
does anyone have AGI (Line 11) that is LESS THAN the numbers in this table AND Line 27a is blank on Form 1040?
number of children (colum 1)
Maximum earned income tax credit (column 2)
Max AGI, single or head of household filers (coumn 3)
Max AGI, married joint filers (column 4)
0 | $1,502 | $21,430 | $27,380 |
1 | $3,618 | $42,158 | $48,108 |
2 | $5,980 | $47,915 | $53,865 |
3 or more | $6,728 | $51,464 | $57,414 |
Any update on the EIC? I am dealing with the same issue.
No updates. Filled out the form and never heard back. Tried calling IRS but can't ever talk to someone. I figured by now I'll never get it. TurboTax really screwed a lot of customers. Shame on them.
