I purchased Turbo Tax 2024 for Home and Business at Sams Club. Ran the program and finished my taxes. The program initially would not load my 2024 Turbo Tax Data but after a search it did. My first state was supposed to be free. The second state I paid $25 for. When I got to the end, there was a $40 filing fee to get my refund, which I paid. Then I had to pay another $53 for two states with tax. I thought the purchased version was free federal (no refund fee) and then had to pay for the state and twice for the second state. I thought maybe somehow along the way I got to the online version (where I didn't have a username or password - don't know how that might have happened) so I tried to reload my info onto my purchased version license code but it gave me a blank form - none of the data I spent hours and hours loading onto the form. So I went back and paid the fees, there was no other way to do it. So Turbo Tax ended up costing me $158 this year. How did this happen and can you fix it so others don't have to pay too much Otherwise, buyer beware! This is an e-filing gouging problem with Turbo Tax. The software works great!

I’m not clear on what you paid for. Did you do state returns for different states? The first state PROGRAM download is free to prepare multiple returns in that state. Then if you need to file a return for a different state you need to buy a different state program for $45. But you should have a $10 rebate from Sam’s you could use for it.
Then each state return (including the first one) is $25 to efile. Or you can print and mail state for free.
There is no filing fee or fee to get your refund. There is a Extra $40 Refund Processing Service charge (45 in California) if you want to have the state efile fee deducted from your refund which you can avoid by paying it upfront with a credit card. People get going too fast at the end to file and click on the wrong button to continue. You have to go slowly and read all the screens and watch what button you click on. There is one screen that can trip you up.
