Deduct state and/or local taxes on federal return
Am I able to deduct any Washington state taxes, i.e., sales tax paid on my federal return? Ex: state taxes were part of the cost of construction for my home, and on the appliances, hardware, fixtures, etc. Thank you.

Deduct state and/or local taxes on federal return
The state of Washington does not have an income tax but state residents can deduct sales tax from their federal tax returns.
To do this in TurboTax, please follow these steps:
- Click on Federal Taxes > Deductions & Credits [In TT Self-Employed: Personal > Deductions & Credits > I'll choose what I work on].
- In the Estimates and Other Taxes Paid section, click on the Start/Revisit box next to Sales Tax. [See Screenshot #1 below.]
- Continue through the screens, entering the requested information.
