CP09 notice for unclaimed EIC

Hi, hope someone can advise...

I posted here a couple weeks ago about the fact Turbotax had not given me the Earned Income Credit even though I qualify and filled in the details about my kids like I always do. The person I spoke to at TurboTax said it was a software bug and I would have to file an amended return.

Just today I received a CP09 notice from the IRS telling me I may be eligible for the EIC, and including a worksheet to fill in and return to them.

I'm just wondering: is it better to just wait and do an amended return when TurboTax makes the forms available? Or should I just go ahead and return the worksheet to the IRS (if I return the worksheet, do I still need to file an amended return?)

I would be so grateful for advice from people who know more about this than I do!

I'm glad that I'm not the only one this happened too. I also got the form in the mail, but I filled it out immediately and sent it back. It's to bad TT had a glitch and didn't have it fixed in time for our tax season. Here's to waiting an extra 8 weeks for the rest of our return.

I guess the next question is... Did you get the money back from the IRS or was it denied? I've been waiting on a response for 21 days now and i haven't heard anything back whatsoever.

I also got this letter! I completed my form and send it back immediately on Feb 16. After paying turbo a significant amt I’m super disappointed after using this software religiously for so many years! I have not heard anything. I called the IRS and they couldn’t even confirm that they had received my worksheet. I’m extremely frustrated! Today is week 7, did you try and f/u after mailing your letter? And did you get a paper check even after you filed direct deposit?

Hi there: I didn't follow up with the IRS at all, but if it had gone beyond 8 weeks or so, I probably would have. I received the refund as a paper check. I hope you don't have to wait much longer!

I'm also disappointed with the service provided by TurboTax this year, because of this issue and also because of other changes they made that would have required me to purchase the next grade up software in order to claim the home office deduction (I used to be able to claim that deduction in my usual TurboTax option). I also found it hugely irritating to keep being sent to a pop-up asking me if I wanted to upgrade. The marketing just seemed really intrusive this time. I've used TurboTax for years, but I'm not sure if I will again.

I also recieved this notice. I sent it in on 4/4. I figured it's going to take a while to hear from the IRS because of the government shutdown delay. My notice had an up to amount. I hope I get anywhere near that. Did you receive a decent amount?

It is going to take awhile to process that form.  The IRS was shut down due to covid and they are still dealing with a huge backlog.  You can call their toll-free line at 800-829-0922 to check the status.  @Curryjackie30

@pattieliz

They should have sent instructions with the notice. You will have to contact the IRS for further instructions.

I received a Notice from the IRS that I may be eligible for a refund for EIC.  They said to fill out the Form 15111 and return to IRS.  I looked and looked and there is no Form 15111.

I filed through Turbo Tax.

Thanks,

Can someone provide the address to send the CP 09 form to. For some reason I never got one in the mail but it shows on my updated tax form I'm due money for the EITC.

.

Can you clarify what you mean by 'updated tax form' so we can try to help you?

If you opened your return from a prior year and it shows a different Refund Amount than the return you originally filed, you could Amend your return to claim the difference.

Hello, i just saw this one. I just want to ask how long did you wait for your cp09 check? I received mine jan 28 and responded to it right away, I’m just wondering how long does it take is it really 8weeks or more than that?

I got this notice Jan 27, 2022, I mailed it before end of January. It’s more than 8 weeks, I called IRS to check for status the person that I spoked to said he doesn’t see anything about it since it’s more than 8 weeks he told me to file 1040x and include schedule EIC for 2020. Is anyone have the same situation like me? I never got any mail from the IRS within those 8 weeks until now.

I was multitasking and had one heck of a day when i received this and then re-read what they sent me and it told me to fill out the Schedule EIC right on my paper. @CG181

Did you send 1040x form also?

Complete the forms they sent, you’re much better off dealing directly with the department that currently has your return. There’s likely a special address and phone number to reach them in the letters. Don amend it will take months to resolve if you do.
