COVID-19 stimulus for dependent in 2019, but not dependent in 2020

My daughter graduated college in August, 2019.  We claimed her as a dependent on our 2019 filing because we paid for over half her expenses for the year.  When she graduated she got a job and was no longer a dependent, meaning that we cannot claim her as a dependent in 2020.   Is she eligible for the stimulus payment?  Will she have to wait until she files in 2020 to receive the stimulus payment?

Yes, she will need to wait until she files her 2020 tax return in order to qualify and receive the stimulus payment.

She cannot receive it sooner because she was claimed as a dependent on your tax return.  Even if you had not claimed her as a dependent, but you were eligible to claim her, she would still be disqualified for the stimulus payment.

COVID-19 stimulus for dependent in 2019, but not dependent in 2020

RE: stimulus check from summer 2020 and coming stimulus check 2021 for daughter dependent and no longer dependent.

My daughter graduated college in August, 2019.  We claimed her as a dependent on our 2019 filing because we paid for over half her expenses & college for the year.  When she graduated she got a job in September 2020  and was no longer a dependent, meaning that we are not going to claim her as a dependent for taxes 2020.  My husband and I received $2400 stimulus check in the summer of 2020. (nothing for my daughter)  Is she eligible for the stimulus payment credit that was given in the summer of 2020? (does she get $1200? can she get a credit?)   AND how will she get the new $600 stimulus check being sent out  in January 2021 if she has not filed her taxes yet? (2020 filing will be her first time filing)

As long as she qualifies as an independent (non-dependent) filer in 2020, she will qualify for both stimulus checks.  They will be claimed as part of her tax return and added to her refund ($1800 total for the two payments).
