Yes. If your e-filed return is pending, you will not be able to make any changes until it is accepted or rejected by the IRS. After that, you can amend your return. Please see How to amend (change or correct) a return you've already filed for more information.

There are no additional fees associated with filing an amended tax return providing that your reason for amending does not warrant a program upgrade.

@Ebony A Huh? If you efile the amended return you don't have to mail it in.
You should not amend until the first return has fully processed and you get the first refund or your tax due payment has cleared.
