Can Form 4684 Casualties & Thefts be filed electronically for 2018 returns? You could on 2017 but it was mentioned to me that you cant for this year's returns.

Want to confirm if true before I try to efile.

Form 4684 can be filed electronically.  What your friend may have been mentioning might be the tax law changes for Form 4684 in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.  Beginning with tax year 2018 and through tax year 2025, you can only deduct casualty and theft losses if they're brought about due to an event that's been declared a disaster by the U.S. president.

And you must be able to itemize your return to take the deduction.

That answer is not correct! The statute says you do NOT need to itemize but can add it to your standard deduction if you do not itemize.  SO, why does Turbo Tax not allow this to happen.  I completed the form but can't otherwise itemize so it's not adding it to the standard deduction like it is suppose to!!
